SMTS 1930 Bentley Speed Six revised

Postby Ralf B. » Sat Oct 22, 2016 1:08 pm

Some weeks ago I bought the model with minor paint damages and missing parts for 40.00 Euros.

While waiting for parts delivery I touched up the paint and scraped the details except grille and headlight rings.

That's what it looks like now...

The SMTS is a definite step up from the IXO. Nevertheless, an cheap IXO might be a useful source for parts.

Very fine model! To be honest, I don't know much about SMTS... Are they still manufacturing? What's their range, British racing classics? At least a reason for me to think about collecting racing cars, too...

...and here She is in the actual race, July 1930.

This car became known as 'Old Number One', she is a May 1929 car built on chassis number LB 2332, registration number MT 3464. The car survives in a state that has been the subject of many debates and a court action due to so many rebuilds using a source of parts from other cars which ultimately led to discussions that she is no longer original.

Here's a clearer picture of the Bentley. Note the mangled rear cycle wing which appear a lot more flimsy than any of the model makers have been able to reproduce.
