ALEZAN ALFA ROMEO NAVAJO 1976 RESIN 1/43

Post by swift63 » Sun Mar 12, 2017 4:27 pm

My second attempt at making a hand-built model, the last being an Airfix Sauber C9. Had way too many problems with this build resulting in a few more imperfections than I'd hoped for, though I'm a bit more prepared for my next couple of hand-built projects.

Model is hand-painted as I still mainly use only brushes & using an airbrush is impractical atm. Fixing to the plinth was done using real-earth magnets as there's no good place for a screw-fixing & also allows quick removal from the case without wearing out fixing or losing screws.

Hope you've enjoyed this walk through of 3 weeks work. I've been modelling for over 40 years now this has really been a beginners stage for me. Now on to the next :-)

Thanks. Persevered would be a more likely description  . I've done my share of tricky models & annoying models over the years but this model seemed to throw a tantrum every time I picked it up. Gearstick broke (replaced with fine wire), wrong & broken steering wheel (again new, proper shaped wheel fashioned from wire), trying to get the windows the correct shape & fitting (I swapped the kit blue plastic for sweetbox clear). Even the front indicator broke in half.

Didn't really have to worry about the gearstick or steering as it's inside but it's a mental thing, I know it'd be wrong & I couldn't handle that.

Would I do it again? Oh yes ;) , 2 Model K Resin Astons kits are sitting ready on the table to try with some, hopefully, special finishing effects

You put a lot of work and effort in your work and the result is nice. The more I wonder why you just don't use a spray can if you think a airbrush is unpracticle. The result would be much more better then your acutal ones.

Great model, I love how precise the orange stripes are. And I was also wondering why you just don't use a color in spraycan.

model is beautiful, the hand work i know it's challenging and difficult, but i have to say i would have preferred it painted by airbrush...

Thanks for the comments. Regarding not using an airbrush or spray can, purely down to sorting suitable space & lung disease. I would need to look for better working area & ideal ventilation. On top of that I have to deal with a form of COPD.
