Caravans & Trailers – Love 'Em or Hate 'Em

Post by Featherless_Biped » Fri Dec 02, 2016 8:11 pm

By request, I am starting this thread for your caravans and trailers of any sort. Utility trailers as well as campers are welcome.

I'll start with some 1:43s.

Great idea! I believe that this is the only one I have in 1:43 scale:

Citroën 2CV Charleston + caravan Eriba Puck, by Eligor

RT, thank you sir (and your trailer-collecting SO, of course).

My collection is a far more modest affair. (I too have the 2CV Charleston with its "remorque" so I won't repeat it here.)

Image
Buick Roadmaster in holiday mode. The box it came in says it's by Motormax.

Image
VW with charming caravan, a cheapie from Cararama.

Image
VW Samba Bus with Eriba Puck, a more expensive offering from Schuco.

Image
Jaguar XJ6 with horse float, from Vanguards.

Image
And just because I have it at hand, one of my early dioramas, featuring the Jag at the horse stud.

Finally, two slight "cheats" in that they are 1/76s, both from Oxford Diecast, but what the hell, I'm hungry.

.... And RT and Julio, excuse my bad manners, but I love your trailers/caravans! In particular, I really like that Setra S6 bus, RT. I'm slowly developing a fondness for buses which I know is going to become expensive if I'm not careful. And I pity the poor MGB owner who chose to combine a sports car with a trailer that probably weighs more than the hauler vehicle. Does it rain much in England?

What is this rain you talk of. Never seen it here. ;)
Andy

British roads have history. Some were built by the Romans. British road investment being what it is, they have only been re-surfaced a few times since.

Does it rain in England?...now where's that ROFL Smilie?

Great pics of caravans/trailer combos. My one and only only paired example is the Vanguards Horse Box/Jag XJ6 set, simply because I wanted the XJ6 in the gunmetal grey colour.

It replicated the colour and model of my very first drive in a 6 cyl Jaguar XJ6 saloon in 1973.

Fortunately the 1:1 didn't have a horsebox behind it. Rather spookily the destination that day was to a Point-to-Point Horse Race Meeting in Sussex.... so the Vanguards model was very apt on several levels.

What an impressive collection!

I'll add mine. I've at least one more, but it's somewhere in a box...

Trailers don't seem to be available often and usually I even forget to search for them when I'm buying 1/43 models but I sure would like to get some trailer and caravan in 1/43 :)
I only have a horse trailer in 1/36 scale, Toyota Land-Cruiser as a towing car and 1/64 scale VW Golf mk1 with boat trailer. That Golf used to be black when it was new but as a kid I thought it was good idea to paint it white with terrible results

Two more!

That does indeed look great! I've helped load a few of those as motorbike transporters... local rental place has a few Bockmann trailers like that.

Some nice trailer and caravans here. I would like to add one or to to my collection someday -- a campground diorama would be nice.

Here is the one trailer in my collection worth mentioning -- from an IXO partwork series.

Talk about a "happy coincidence": my wife and I gave each other Christmas gifts with a caravan theme. For her Christmas gift she bought me a cute little 1/87 Schuco VW Beetle Cabriolet with caravan ("Wohnannhanger").

Image

And to go with the model car, she also included a wonderful book on 'Vintage Camper Trailers". Here's the cover, and two shots of nice looking rigs. However, the book is equally about the trailers and their owners, and is published by Gibbs Smith, Utah. Terrific fun to flick through.

And for my wife, I made her a special Christmas card using a caravan-themed diorama I created a few years back. Here it is.

Image

It's a modern-day Outback themed nativity scene, with Mary & Joseph, three wise kangaroos and two black angels. That's where the caravan theme ended, because neither of us is especially into caravans. I bought her some music CDs plus Bruce Springsteen's autbiography, which is more to her tastes.

Jamie, I think this is the same trailer as the one in your book. Love the little "wings," whitewall tires, and period-correct color. 8-)

Yep, that's the one, RT. Lots of nicely restored old Shasta trailers in the book, too.

Love this! I saw one of these in red in California in an industrial area that was restored perfectly.
As chance would have it, I saw another restored one in much the same setting a few weeks later in Erie PA.

Jeff, you might have seen the new AirFlyte 16 of 2016. The trailer is being reproduced now, exactly like the original on the outside, but updated on the inside with microwave, LED lighting, etc.

I bet thats it, the wings were chrome like on the website and they were almost too perfect to be restored. Especially seeing 2 in the same condition.
