Williams Renault Fw19 JP Montoya "Young Gun" 1997 first F1 test

Post by swift63 » Mon Jun 26, 2017 7:40 pm

Taken from Crash.Net
"Williams Test Drivers Apply Here!

Williams Grand Prix are planning to test three young guns next month with an eye
to placing one as their long term test driver, the position has seen Williams
launch the Grand Prix careers of both Damon Hill and David Coulthard and is seen
as a highly sought after drive for an up and coming talent.

Sources suggest that F3000 hotshoes Juan Pablo Montoya and Max Wilson, as well
as British F3 front runner Nicolas Minassian are all due to test an Fw19 at
Barcelona early next month as part of the evaluation."

So here's my shelf filler to Montoyas' first F1 drive.

Williams Renault Fw19, "Young Gun" Juan Pablo Montoya. 1st F1 Test, Circuit De Catalunya 1st December 1997.
Conversion using Minichamps donor car with hand-painted Denizen figure.

Figure preparation stages.

Racesuit detailing stage. The detailing isn't exact as I try to paint in a way that you see what you expect to see, a case of trying to get the brain to fool the eyes.

Onto the helmet painting. This is the finished helmet rather than every stage ;)

Rothmans suit logo added. Sadly my hands aren't always as steady, this was hand written

Finally, a simple card-stock wrap for the case.

Total cost of conversion roughly £12 (car, figure & display case) and a couple of days work.

That must be the pre-donut Montoya  .

The model has a nice artistic feel. Of course you could have used Rothmans decals instead of hand painting the logos, but I like what you've done.
