Holiday Village Diorama 2009

Image
Evening mail by IFHP97, on Flickr

I told my young daughters that we could set up a Holiday Village diorama in our living room on the day after (US) Thanksgiving 2009. On Thanksgiving night I pulled out some of my 1:43 scale Fords to see how they would look with these ceramic Holiday Village buildings. I took a few pictures and was favorably impressed; I had no idea what this would lead to.

Christmas carolers or lost Christmas shoppers? by IFHP97, on Flickr

On the evening of “Black Friday” I rearranged the Holiday Village to display as make room for as many scale cars as possible in parking lot formation. I had some perverse pleasure in recasting these Dickinsonian Christmas carolers figurines as holiday shoppers looking for their car.

Holiday Village Diorama 2010

My second year out, the diorama and photography got a bit more sophisticated.

You can tell this is your passion by the results.
I think one of my favorites (among many) is the Mustang in the showroom and the large parking lot scene.

Do you have any pics of the Roadway C Cab.
Details?

Ford's sure like to come out in the snow :P

Very fun work and sort of gets me in the Christmas spirit more than the holiday tunes in the discount stores ;)

Thanks for sharing.

Lovely work! ;)

All of your Ford models look fabulous here, and the photography adds such a nice human warmth to it all! Like BB said, it really gets one in the Christmas spirit! :)

Thank you everyone. Yes, it has be a passion to me these last three years. But what will I do this year? The kids have already set the village up, but I have only poked at it so far this year.

Do you have any pics of the Roadway C Cab.
Details?

Yes, it is 1:50 scale by Atherton (who make a lot of trucks for model railroaders). It is nicely detailed, but is just too small to be displayed with the 1:43 rolling stock (unless it is far in the background).

I'll take some more pictures of it and post them in the truck section. In the meantime, here is another pictures of that C-Series from the 2009 village.

I wish the wheels on this Altaya model turned for this shot. The visual reference is this stunning 1979 video.

I always get a chuckle about the casual cross-country skiers crossing through the scene.

More Holiday Village 2012

Today the Holiday Village became a city, covering the dinning room table and more. This is a special one-day-only affair. Here are a few pictures, I'll post more later.

Yes, it is a Trax, and a nice one too. The blue side spear was a rarely seen Australian accessory on the XK Falcons.

Thanks. The lighted buildings are ceramic and are common in the US for Christmas displays. The plastic buildings are styrene for use with O Scale railraod setups. Some were bought completly built and other were kits (I've been taking my time on finishing that car dealership).

Brilliant creativity here and a wonderful selection of Fords throughout. It makes me question which is the better collecting theme - Porsche, where, dare I say it? - they all look the same :? or Ford where they literally are all different? For me, these dioramas answer that dilemma. Well done.

Very cool. What a great holiday tradition

British roads have history. Some were built by the Romans. British road investment being what it is, they have only been re-surfaced a few times since.
