Research Material

Post by dbonser » Thu Feb 20, 2014 12:03 am

I don't recall seeing a thread about sites that have good information for researching models so I decided to start one. I'll kick things off with the following links:

Dakar Retrospective: http://netstorage.lequipe.fr/ASO/dakar/ ... 009_us.pdf - Detailed results from 1979 - 2009.

Datsun History: http://www.datsunhistory.com/home.html - Lots of info but a particularly detailed history of Datsun in the Safari Rally.

Japan Automobile Federation: http://www.jaf.or.jp/msports/results/n-race/index.htm - A goldmine of Japanese racing history. Unfortunately, as you can imagine, the site is in Japanese (and a bit slow). I use Google Translate (or Google Chrome to auto-translate) to be able to get around. When searching, though, you need to enter Japanese text so you will need to translate the name from English to Japanese to be able to search. Also, the search button on the search screens is the one on the right. When you finally get to the event you're looking for, clicking the little 'bullets' in the right-most column in the results will display more details about the driver & car.

Juha's World Rally Archive: http://www.juwra.com - Nearly every kind of WRC statistic imaginable - events, drivers, cars, etc.

Mitsubishi Motors Motorsports: http://www.mitsubishi-motors.com/specia ... index.html - Dakar, WRC, etc. from 1995 - 2008.

Nissan Heritage Collection: http://www.nissan-global.com/EN/HERITAGE/index2.html - Virtual museum of Nissan history from 1920 - 2002.

Pikes Peak Hill Climb Race Winners By Year: http://www.ppihc.com/race_winners_by_year/

Racing Sports Cars: http://www.racingsportscars.com - Kind of like juwra.com above but for every other kind of racing.

Rallybase: http://www.rallybase.nl - Great source of statistics on just about every other rally (including WRC) - just click Rallies at the top. The only drawback is that there haven't been many updates since 2012.

Rallye Info: http://www.rallye-info.com/default.asp - A lot of the same kind of information but much more information about cars: "Information on all major models of car to have competed in the WRC and IRC. Includes specification, results, descriptions and who they were driven by. Information is further broken-down into each year/evolution of a car-model." To get to this click on STATISTICS and then THE RALLY CARS. Finally, choose the appropriate class from the drop-down at upper-right.

Super GT: http://supergt.net/pages/pg:results/device:pc/ln:en - Click on RACE ARCHIVE for results all they way back to 1994.

I'm sure I have more buried away somewhere so I will add them as I find them.

Some I have found useful over the years.

The photo threads of a French forum - huge range of MC and LM photos, including many non professional ones. There is also a 52 page (at time of posting) Safari spread.

Major rallying photo resource

Full results for LM and many years of Targa Florio
