Countach Color Conundrum!

Post by protzenegger » Wed Aug 02, 2017 9:11 pm

Hey folks,

Now that I've got some display space and can marvel at my 1:43s in all their glory, I've had more time to contemplate my AUTOart Countach 5000S, which looks like this one:

Image

This appears to be the same blue that the 1:18 Kyosho 5000QV is famous for. However, my research into this color has turned up no evidence that the 5000S was ever painted in a solid blue from the factory. The closest I've seen for that version is Tahiti Blue, a metallic and slightly darker shade:

Image

A few solid blue examples seem to exist of the 5000QV, like this 1988.5 US import with rather unfortunate 5-mph bumpers...

Image

...but I've got nothing on what this paint is called. Presumably it's original? :? I know AUTOart is no stranger to "fantasy editions" but why this blue when there were multiple factory shades to choose from? It's not like they even had their 1:18 available in this color. They even took the time to make a new interior color for this version. Does it actually correspond to a 1:1 I don't know about?

I surely cannot help except to say I think its a great looking color. Accurate or not.

I'm a bit confused here. If the authenticity of the colour is an issue why buy it? :?

I like the '80s Countach in the proper colours of the day- black, white, red.

Hmm and since we are getting picky, the real cars had white leather interior, not tan..

Is it possible to customize the order for supercars like Lamborghini? They may have certain colours "in stock" but perhaps customer can also order, for extra money of course, whatever colour he/she wants? Maybe the AA Lambo is replicated after someones custom painted car, either painted in the factory or afterwards? Or then it is just a "fantasy" colour but great looking model anyway.

This famous LP400 sold for $1.4m at Bonhams in 2014. Maybe AA were lazy and simply copied the colour scheme for their 5000S ?

It wasn't an issue until long after purchase. Thought red was maybe too "obvious" a choice and there wasn't one available for the price I got this at).

I don't care for these in black, and wasn't keen on the dark interior in the white ones. Remembered seeing some blue Countaches online & didn't realize they were QVs and not the S.

Also, I didn't use to be this nitpicky - in my 1:18 "stash" are a black GT90 and gold VT Coupe, which never existed but figured the idea was interesting when I got them. But these days I prefer my models looking the way I'm likely to see them IRL, so fantasy colors are out. It's why I went to a Bentley dealer to look for EXP10s instead of just getting one of the 20 red ones on eBay.

Probably gonna replace this with a red one after all. Although red is a bit over-represented in my collection, this would at least look just like the first Countach I ever saw in the metal. Plus I've come to prefer the lighter interior over this tan version.

(Bonus: I have an orange AA 1:18 Murci from AA, the green Make Up Miura I posted a while ago, blue Diablo SV reserved from them, and hope to add their silver 25th Ann. Countach as well. The 5000S in red will make the array of colors on my Lamborghini shelf look absolutely mental. Did someone say "group shot?" 8-) )

Seems likely. But then I'd rather get a model of that LP400 if I want the color scheme :D

ETA: Seems that's actually Tahiti Blue, same as the 1:1 5000S I posted above - with metallic flake.

Indeed it is. AUTOart's best, IMO. The shutlines are insanely small when it's closed, too. Now that's precision fit!

Apropos, Kyosho/MR collaborated on an LP400 with about the same level of detail. You should check it out!

I have the Minichamps LP400 in this blue and MC call it Bugatti Blue , but after looking at colour charts for the Countach , no such colour exists . Maybe , like Porsche , customers could order any colour they wanted for a price.

Worth every penny if you ask me. What's better, this or a non-opening resin for $180+? ;)

There's one just like it on eBay right now for €200  Quality doesn't look any better than AA though.

The AutoArt Countach is the best looking Countach made by any 1/43 manufacturer by far. I've got an MR Countach 5000 QV and it seems a bit too big in scale. The IXO Countach was nice and would have been the best if AutoArt never made a 1/43 Countach. I've chosen a white AutoArt 1/43 Countach as its my favorite Countach color. I sure hope that AutoArt will make a 1/43 25th Anniversary Countach in either silver or pearl white.

Cheers,
Adam

I've got those IXO Countach too and also the Walter Wolf Countach in blue. IXO did a pretty good job on the Countach in terms of scale and proportions.

My only one is the white one by whitebox. Looks like I can't afford to the AA version :P
