Did you make the Rapid fit Mondeo yourself? I think I remember some kits of that model a few years back.

Hi - The Rapid Fit Mondeo was built from a Tin Wizard kit-- i think you can still get them now - they are based in Germany from memory.

very nice collection of Fords

What is the quality of the Tin Wizard Mondeo like? I have wanted to buy the painted kit for a while but the price (€119) is a little steep (a fully made is €209  ). If it's good quality and easy to put together I might just have to take the hit!
It would be nice to take it off my wish list.

Also I notice you have a yellow Zephyr, can I ask what this car is from? Is it the 59 Uren car? If so who made the model and is it 1/43?

Thanks Chris

Hi - the quality of the Tin Wizard model is very good (still massively over priced though), at least they were when i bought mine a couple of years ago - I couldn't bring myself to pay the ready built price so built it myself from the pre-painted kit. The only thing which was a little iffy were the decals - they werent very tacky and some are minute - i lost two when building the model and some i had to use a decal softner on to get them to conform to the curves on the model. I wouldnt use a strong decal softner though - i'd be a little worried they would shrivel up. I got a couple of variants of decals with mine - not sure if that's luck or error on their part.

The other car is the 59 Uren - it came in a box of 3 produce by Corgi in (i think) the 80's - there is a box set on sale on Ebay right now for just over £20 including postage - type in Corgi D36/1 which is the model reference or Racing Ford Zephyr. I've always been a little sceptical as to whether the real car was bright yellow but not sure how common colour photo's were in the late 50's

Damn, you have just made me open my wallet just before Christmas :D

I have just purchased that Zephyr collection off ebay, the Mondeo will have to wait till next year though.

Thanks for all the info on the models.

Hi reeft, thought you might also be interested in these Ford touring cars produced by Australian manufacturers Biante and Classic Carlectables. All are winners of Australia's premier motor race - the Bathurst 500miles, which later became the Bathurst 1,000km's. All cars are well detailed and typically include detailed suspension and front wheels that turn as you can see in some of the pictures :

1977 Winner :

1981 Winner :
Ford Falcon XD

2008 Winner :

There are many other models of Ford's that won at Bathurst dating back to 1964. To find them just search "Bathurst Ford 43" on eBay.

Very nice - the Falcon SC has a definite "Mad Max" look to it!

Well spotted - the Falcon Coupe was the base for the Mad Max cars. Perhaps you need to start a new theme - "Fords in Movies" !

Hi - i thought it might be of interest to some people if i listed what's in my Touring Car collection and why (and what the gaps are):

BTCC Class or Overall Champions
1959 Uren - overall champ - Zephyr/Zodiac - Got, Corgi D36/1
1963 Sears - overall champ - Galaxie 500 - Got SMTS RL92A Kit (yet to be made - will post photos when i do)
1965 Pierpoint - overall champ - Mustang - Got - ERTL base model plus variety of decals to make the car used
1966 Fitzpatrick - overall champ - Anglia - Got - Vanguards BA1002
1967 Gardner - overall champ - Falcon Sprint - nobody has made a 1/43 of the correct Falcon Sprint as yet
1968 Gardner - overall champ - Cortina Lotus MkII for part of season (Got - Vanguards VA04110) and Escort Twin Cam for part of season (Got - Trofeu TR525)
1978/1980 Spice - overall champ 1978 - Capri 3.0s MkIII (Got - Vangaurds VA10804 - however......this is listed as the 1978 3.0 class winner, but based on a poster i have lying around, i have a sneaking feeling the car that Vanguards have made is actually the 1980 version.
1984 Longman - class C Champion - RS1600i - Got Vanguards VA11000
1985 Hodgetts - class C Champion - RS1600i - Got Vanguards VA11004
1985 Rouse - Class A Champion and Overall Champion - Merkur XR4Ti - Got Vanguards VA12202
1986 Rouse - Class A Champion - Merkur XR4Ti - nobody has made this model as far as i can tell although perhaps a company called S&J did - they certainly made one version of this Rouse car many years ago.
1988 Rouse - Class A Champion - Sierra Cosworth RS500 - Got Trofeu AME02
1989 Rouse - Class A Champion - Sierra Cosworth RS500 - Got Trofeu TR117
1990 Gravett - Overall Champion - Sierra Cosworth RS500 - Got - Minichamps base with decals bought off Ebay
2000 Menu - Overall Champion - Mondeo 2.0 v6 24v - Got - Tin Wizard

From the BTCC I also have a couple of non championship winning versions of Fords
1970 Escort RS1600 driven by Fitzpatrick - Trofeu TR526
1991 Sierra Saphire Cosworth 4x4 driven by Gravett - MotorPro MP012
1995 Mondeo 2.0v6 24v driven by Radisich - Racing Replicas 95018-0077

1971 Glemser - Overall Champion - Capri RS2600 - Got Trofeu TR2305
1972 Mass - Overall Champion - Capri RS2600 - Got Trofeu TR2306
1974 Heyer - Overall Champion - Escort RS1600 Zakspeed - I have an as yet unbuilt Scala43 kit of the Heyer car from the German DTM which i intend to modify (minimal modifying required - maybe just race numbers)
1979 Niedwiedz/Muller - Division 3 Winner - Escort RS1800 Zakspeed - Got Scala43 E05M
1988 Soper/Ludwig - Overall Manufacturers Champion - Sierra Cosworth RS500 - Got code 3 conversion based on Minichamps 430878067

Some great models in your collection. Nice to see someone else has a 1986 Rouse Merkur XR4Ti by S&J models. If you haven't made it yet, it weighs a TON!

Here is a great site for 1/43 Ford Motorsport models. http://www.fordmotorsportmodels.com/

Hi - i'd love to claim i own an S&J Rouse XR4Ti but unfortunately can't lay claim to that honour - i came across a picture of it on a forum site some years ago, but that is the one and only time i have ever seen evidence of anyone making a Merkur/Rouse car prior to Vanguards releasing their version. I have to be honest, i've been unable to re-locate that forum site/picture since, and therefore i cant say for certain whether it was the 1986 of 1985 version that S&J made - for that matter, i cant say i've ever been able to locate any web site reference to a white metal kit company called S&J so i suspect they are no more - All a bit of a mystery!

Many thanks for posting this picture - i assume its an S&J mode and it looks excellent. It seems to confirm that the car they produced was the 1985 BTCC version. The only document I have showing an image of the 1986 car is a poster which shows a drawn image rather than a photo and only in side profile, but from that angle, the only difference in decals is that the rear side bumper has a Kent Cams decal rather than a Trimoco one. Not sure if anyone could point me in the direction of any decent photo's from the 1986 BTCC?

This was supposed to have taken at the 1986 TT at Donington Park.

That's a great help as it confirms the Kent Cams decal - everything else looks pretty similar at first glance to the 1985 decals so this could be a straightforward conversion to make the 1986 car.

The 1985 Overall and Class A Champion Merkur XR4Ti and 1986 Class A Champion of Andy Rouse. Both are Vanguards models -the front "grill" has been painted white and the 1986 car has had rear side bumper Trimoco decals replaced with the Kent Cams one.

Very nice collection!

I am very glad i saw this as i always thought the RR mondeo you have of Radisich was the same as the Minichamps one from 1994. From your pictures i have now realized that they have different numbers and are from different years so i can now be on the lookout for one for my collection ;)
