Porsche 962 Logo placement help

Post by Stu935 » Mon Sep 11, 2017 12:17 pm

I've recently received the below Porsche 962 GTi RLR (Richard Loyd Racing) from the 1989 Le Mans race. The model comes with a small decal sheet. The decal sheet contains three small 'Cabin' sponsor logos. One logo is red, the other two are white.
Can any of you race car gurus help locating where these three logos should be placed on the model. Ive searched various photos of the actual car from the 89 Le Mans race, and cannot find where they should be placed on the car.

Thanks
Stu

Damn that looks good! Make Up?
But sorry, I don't have any photos of that car.

I don't have any pictures of the rear of the #15 car, but this picture of the sister #14 car shows two 'Cabin' logos on the back of the car behind the wheels which is probably where the two white logos go. If you keep looking for more pictures of the #14 car you might locate the position of the remaining logo :

I found this picture of the model which confirms my thoughts above :

I can't see any sign of the red logo on the body and think this must be for some obscure place like the underside of the rear wing.

thanks Ian, that's a great help.

I have a feeling that the final red Cabin decal is meant to go on the sun strip/visor on the front windscreen just like the #14 sister car, but can't find any photos to confirm this

I've had a look at my Spark model of the #15 car and it is as you say. The third 'Cabin' decal is from the sun visor.

Stu

I know a man who might well help you here. I have just sent him the details via email. Hope to get an answer in the next few days.

Its strange that there are very few front on shots of this car. The "Motorsport" archives have this one without the Cabin decal, but its from Thursday qualifying and not the race. The Cabin sponsorship must have been a last minute deal.

I had to rely on my "common sense" a few times already to be able to correctly apply decals on my models.

Unfortunately sometimes it is hard to find photo references, but it's better to make a deep search and be "almost" sure than to make an ugly mistake.

If it is the case, I would even try to contact people who worked at the time in the team or even the drivers who piloted this car. You would be surprised but they actually do respond in most of the cases!
