#14 is the Alfa 8C 2300,
The Earl Howe/Tim Birkin victory in 1931, after overcoming the Mercedes of three times its capacity, heralded the first of four consecutive wins for the iconic 2.3. The narrow Tazio Nuvolari/Raymond Sommer win in 1933 was perhaps the car's greatest. - John Turner / AUTOSPORT

This is the 1931 Alfa Romeo 8C 2.3 by IXO, basically the one that won in "31.

This is the 1932 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300. A Starter kit that I have yet to finish (since 2001).
Note the wire wheels compared to the IXO diecast versions, plus some other differences too.
This is one of the first examples of stream lined fenders as the "tear drop" was thought to be a perfect aerodynamic shape at the time.

This is the 1933 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Nuvolari/Sommer winning car mentioned in the intro above, by IXO

1934 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 the LeMans Winner, Chinetti/Etancelin by IXO.

Just check out that rear.

#13 is the Sauber C9
First introduced in 1987, the C9 was an imposing machine, whether in Kouros, AEG or Silver Arrows livery. Though withdrawn from Le Mans in 1988 after a tyre failure, the C9 returned with more Mercedes support in 1989, taking a 1-2-5 on its way to the world title. - Simon Strang / AUTOSPORT

Jerry posted the C9 earlier but here it is again - the LeMans winner.

Many Thanks for the corrections Dave and Lee, have edited my posts to reflect your info. :)
BTW - I would have bet real $$$ that the #62 Sauber was the LM winner - so much for my memory, and it's happened before. Ugh!

Thanks for the Picassa info Jerry. Maybe Photobucket has something like it, will check.

#11 is the Aston Martin DBR1
The three-time Nurburgring 1000Km winner finally won at Le Sarthe in 1959 in the hands of Roy Salvadori and Carroll Shelby, with the sister car of Maurice Trintignant /Paul Frere second. One of the most beautiful sportscars, it went on to win the world title that year. - John Turner / AUTOSPORT

#6 is the Renault-Alpine A442B
The A442B could only be a product of the 1970s; its long, swooping tail trumpeted that it was designed when the Mulsanne was for hairy-chested heroes, and the huge airbox was in keeping with F1 trends. But it is the A442B's 'bubble' cockpit roof that completes the curious appeal. That it won in 1978 is merely a bonus. - Peter Mills / AUTOSPORT

This Renault Alpine A 442B with Pironi & Jassaud driving won Le Mans in 1978 and the model was produced by Minichamps.

Image

And a just couple more pics of #8 on the list, the magnificent 1968 GT40 recently produced by Spark.
Image

The little flap at the rear of the front wheel opening is an example of it's wonderful detailing.

And #4 is the Jaguar D-type
A true Le Mans legend. Designed with the 24 Hours in mind, a second on its debut in 1954 was followed by three consecutive wins, including a 1-2-3-4-6 result in 1957. Only Mike Hawthorn's role in the 1955 disaster put a blot on an otherwise remarkable Le Mans career. - Kevin Turner / AUTOSPORT

This one by IXO is the 1957 Jaguar D Type, Le Mans Winner, driven by Bueb & Flockhart.

#3 is the Ferrari 330 P3/P4 which is my favorite. It has been hard to be patient before posting these.

More glorious failures. The P3s and P4s were victims of Ford's onslaught, both in terms of engine capacity and resources. The P4 put up the best resistance, finishing second and third in 1967. We reckon it's one of the most beautiful cars to have graced La Sarthe. - Kevin Turne / AUTOSPORT

Failure???? Maybe at LeMans but in 1967 the sensual P4's won the Manufactures Championship.

The P Series line up starting with the 1st P in 1963.

The Daytona winning spyder in 1/24th scale (by Jouf) with the second place coupe by BBR in 1/43ed scale. I believe these same cars also ran at LeMans.

An impressive model indeed.

One last shot. My 1/18th scale "shrine" to 1967, P4's in front, also including the 1967 Chaparral 2F #7, LeMans, P. Hill/M. Spence, the 1967 GT40 Mk IV with the 7.0L V8, D. Hulme/L. Ruby driving, and with the P4 print hovering over all. All are Exoto models.

The Ferrari P4 was one of the most beautiful racers of all time along with the GT40 Mk IV I think. I have #24 that ran at Le Mans and it has the distinct yellow stripe down the middle. The detail on the BBR model is great.

#6 Renault-Alpine A442. Here it is with it's adversary Porsche 936. Very interesting car, but I would never put it on the 6th spot.

#5 is a very popular Mazda 787B. Great model by HPI

#3 Ferrari 330 P3/P4. As far as aesthetic, this is my favorite. Look's like I'm not the only one
#20 is a Spark model, #24 is made by MG

The next three are in Daytona livery and made by MakeUp

#2 is the Porsche 917 Many beautiful examples posted above.

From the aerodynamically unstable 1969 original to the 240mph 1971 Langheck, via the short tail cars that actually won the French enduro, the 917 is one of the true Le Mans greats. So good only a rules change ended the five-litre monster's reign. - Kevin Turner / AUTOSPORT

My contribution is this pair by Minichamps
