Armco 1956 Ford F600 Transporter

Postby Jager » Fri May 13, 2016 9:21 am

Armco models in Australia have released this 1956 Ford F600 transporter :

Image

Although modeled on this version used to transport Holdens, if you removed the markings it could presumably be used to carry any late 50's American iron.

Not cheap at US$ 135, but for a limited edition of 300 pieces that seems reasonable.

Only problem is that an Armco FE Holden will not fit on the bottom deck.

So is it resin or diecast metal and what is the scale?

Some years ago I recall buying what I thought was a 1:43 Italian Mercury Models OM transporter with trailer only to find it was 1:48 or 1:50 so my 1:43 cars wouldn't fit. I promptly put it back on ebay and sold it.

Pretty sure this is resin, accurate to 1:43 like all Armco models. In the picture John showed, the size of the trailer relative to the two cars its carrying appears in scale with the 1:1 picture.

The cab of the truck is a combination of resin, die-cast metal and plastic, while the trailer unit is predominantly die-cast metal. The detail and paint finish is very good. And yes, as Ian mentioned, the model is definitely 1:43rd scale (the cars displayed on the trailer unit are also 1:43rd).

There are a few more images on the SPR Models website http://www.spr-models.co.nz/.

Have seen this a few time and its very tempting. I hope it is re released without the livery so you could add your own with some custom made decals

Thanks for posting these photos. Armco is selling these directly on e-bay and I am tempted, I wonder how hard it would be to remove the Holden decals. Glad to here that the trailer is actually diecast metal, as I would have structural concerns with it if it were resin. The guy from Armco (sorry, don't recall his name, but I think is pretty much a one-person operation) told me in an e-mail that this will not be re-issued in another livery.

Because of their size and complexity, most transporters are pretty expensive. Consider too that this one is limited to 300 pieces which also increases the cost.

By comparison, Spark's Comer transporter was ~$150 when new. You'll have to pay a lot more than that to get one these days :

Schuco's M.A.N. Porsche is almost double the price at around $250 :

...and Exoto's fantastic Bartoletti transporter will cost you about $400 :

Remarkable how small the 1:1 truck in this photo compared to the Holdens on the trailer

By coincidence I saw one of these sell last night for GBP 255 / USD 375 :
