Delays from China due to virus outbreak

Post by The Maltings »

See that Otto are the first to announce indefinite delays in their shipping for reasonably obvious reasons so trust they wont be alone. Appreciate that the delivery of model cars is hardly of primary concern in such circumstances however if the epidemic continues it could have serious cash flow and other effects for manufacturers based there.

Does anyone know where most of the model factories in China are located (Guangzhou ?) and how close that is to Wuhan?

The model factories are far from Wuhan, but the epidemic is wide spread and outbreaking in China now, including the Guangzhou and the rest of China.

There is and there will be a general delay in all types of products made in China, this will definitely affect dramatically all areas of life in the coming months.
I'm not alerting, just being realist.

We have a chain of cheap general stores called 'Action' here, my go-to when I need a phone charge cable, LED bulbs or cheap tools. Their stores are now getting emptier...

This is what we probably first notice, eagerly waiting for the news to arrive.. Until we realize that everyday products will be affected in the same way.

I am getting hourly emails at work on how to deal with cartons coming in from China. And we are already seeing the supply of masks becoming an issue.

The incubation period of the virus is 14 days, so unless your parcels are coming by airfreight there is little to worry about. The port I work for is approx 12 - 14 days sailing time from most Chinese ports, so vessels are being held at the anchorage until they meet the minimum quarantine period. This is being applied across all Australian Ports, and I suspect most other ports in the world.

What this means is that there should be little risk of contracting the virus from our models as and when new shipments start to arrive.

We are one of the biggest Industrial and facility supply companies in the world and have Airfrieght coming in daily.

All my cheapo stuff for my cameras arrived well from China. It was ordered well over two months ago though.

Indeed. No soapboxes, just feel fortunate to live where I do.
