Spielwarenmesse/Nuremberg Toy Fair 2020

Post by The Maltings »

First day today. What surprises if any and when will we see them if at all? Last couple of years not been that great with less and less been shown by fewer manufacturers.

Last year's releases were a bit better than Nurnberg predicted...

Unfortunately, the amount of news in 1:43 is even less than last year. I am in Nuremberg for 2 days with a team to cover all the news. You can find our report here (in dutch, sorry):

Thank you for posting this Marcel. I was delighted to see that Matrix are planning the Chrysler Turboflite, one of my top ten wants! Thanks Matrix.

Sadly it's another disappointing Toy Fair for racing car collectors like me.

I spotted only a handful of models of my interest:

Ford Transit JPS - Spark
Ensign N179 - Spark
Lotus Europa Gr. 5 - Spark
Bentley Continental GT3 - TSM
Acura NSX GT3 - TSM
Lamborghini Huracán GT3 - Make Up

Basically only Spark is doing something new and relevant in the field of racing cars, but even Spark is slowing down. Minichamps is even worse, they are just doing more of the same and it looks like they forgot to invest in new molds.

My thoughts for a number of years.

I saw those two in person. Thankfully (or maybe silly me) I didn't go the their desk to ask for some information.. the airbags were highly inflated!

In general a bit sad with not so many news, I missed Bos/cmf, Kess and Matrix, where were they?
I was also surprised that Schuco did not have the master models (or even first samples) of the Maybach concepts (OK the luxury SUV was inthere in 1/18), but the Sinplex Concept wasonly in the catalogue..

I took a bunch of photos but since the PB is crap these days I haven't sorted out how and where to post pics out of my phone.. and you've already got many reports out there ;)

Most interesting ones for me were some Maxichamps models but they're new colours of old Minichamps models.
What surprised me the most was Knight Rider KITT model in IXO booth, I believe it's 1/18 scale. Last time there was 1/18 scale KITT available, it was from Mattel Hotwheels. Wondering when it'll be released :)

Edit:
in another forum it was told that the KITT is actually an upcoming 1/8 partwork model.

Of course, I've also seen these two. Even cheap brands like Welly produce modelcars that look more real than these ladys...

A lot of brands were missing. I have spoken to the people from Matrix, most of their news for the next half year is already on their website. A lot of plans. But not on the fair, too expensive to be there.

It is good - damn, another pre- order. The Goldvarg Falcon Sprint in Monte Carlo guise is great as well, Spark had one in their 2013 catalogue, but it has dropped out of sight....mind you, every now and then, one of the old back catalogue models pops up, so......
