Spark 2017

Post by The Maltings » Sun Jan 15, 2017 2:36 pm

New year so thought I'd start a new Spark thread if that's ok?! Hope I'm not breaking any forum protocols!!

Any road up for me Spark are starting on a high with a brace of models from a branch of motor sport which the majority of the big manufacturers have foolishly ignored IMO and that is Rallycross (RX if you must). The first two offerings are the Team Hansen Peugeots of Seb Loeb and Timmy Hansen son of one of the legends of the sport Kenneth. Really hope they model other cars from the current and past World and European championships as its been left to a few artisans in the past.

Rallycross was exciting in the '70s and '80s. I hope to see some of the cars I loved to watch in action, like 205 T16s, RS200s, quattros.

Interesting I'm a FB Refusenick myself but googled Spark and got the links!

Agree with you in that I'm more a fan of the Schance, Gollop era and before however feel this a welcome departure.

Spark is covering alone a whole bunch of racing series that no other model manufacturer cares about. For that reason, my personal collection became full of Spark models, they already are the majority in my own collection.

The 70's and 80's F1 cars for instance are being reproduced only by Spark lately. It is also worth mention the Le Mans and classic GT cars.

Shouldn't they have a few panels half-missing or totally gone for more realism :D

I'm a fan of the World RX Championship though. Not so fussed on the Red Bull "World" Championship that is only in the US - you need proper rallycriss tracks IMHO.

I don't even consider the US car park version worthy of the name and IMO the somewhat dubious driving standards that crept into the World series last year could be linked to crazy ideas lifted from the American version like the award for the charge to the first corner which encourages recklessness. Don't get me wrong there's always been contact in the sport but recently its been getting out of control.

Anyway back to Spark they could use their Quattro S1 and 205 T16 E2 moulds for starters...

Saw this on Instagram of the 2016 R18's, colour looks better than the picture Spark released, which was way more silver instead of grey.

Just seen some excerpts from the 2017 catalogue and as a rally collector am pretty happy! How about a Subaru RX and Renault 11 Turbo for starters as well as a Celica RA45? Then from the new era Citroen and Polo 2017 WRC cars...

Thanks!

I wonder where they got it...

I'm impatient waiting to find the full catalogue. Still nothing in Spark's web page.

Nice to see a slight return to the Spark of old with the Glickenhaus and KTM cars. It's been a while since they made any models of road cars by limited production manufacturers. Both will be coming my way (if they get released) along with a couple of the Loti from previous lists.

Im doomed. Loads i want/need. At least Spark build (or propose to build) some interesting models of rally cars from the 70s/80s that nobody else has - just wish they wouldnt build models of average rally cars that every partswork and their dog has made (see Renault 11's)

They could have displayed some prototype samples at the fair! :x

I see that they also start making road legal motorbikes, fingers crossed for concept bikes, too!! (knowing their concept car modelling history, I'd go for some nice 80-moto concepts)

Spark for 2017 is disappointing; no vintage TransAm cars added, still waiting for the AutoDynamics Challenger and AAR Cuda from last years announcement-- still no 1966 McLaren CanAm released yet, been listed listed for several years now- I may not be buying ANY 2017 Spark announcements

Having now found the time to cross reference the new Spark announcements against my Le Mans database, I'm more encouraged than I was initially. I count around ~70 all new announcements for 2017 (separate to the cars there were already announced in previous years), which in addition to the ~50 cars from the 2016 race means around ~120 new announcements in total. An average of 2 per week is more than enough for me.

Some highlights for me include :

1954 Aston Martin DB3's (x3)
1957 Osca Sport 750 (x2)
1959 Aston Martin DBR-1 (x3)
1964 Sunbeam Tiger (x2)
1970 - 1972 Corvettes (x3)
1994 Alpine A610 Turbo
More Porsche 904, 906, 906, 910, 911, 934, 935, 956 & 962 (x30 !)

Do Spark really get all those models released within the year? It seems they're making the most of Audi's withdrawal considering all the LM winning re-releases they have announced.

Pleased about the Mazda 787 and the 95 winning McLaren F1, a hard to find car and a fairly poor existing model respectively.

You obviously haven't seen the HPI examples of these cars Alex. I really don't see why Spark is doing these, except for the fact they want to release every winner.
