NEO 2018

Post by superbird77 » Tue Jan 30, 2018 5:11 pm

Treser Hunter

I fell in love with this car when I first saw it on Super Trump playing cards in 80s. It looked so badass, lifted Audi 90 Quattro with wide wheel arches and bumper protection front and rear. Supposedly it was made as a vehicle for the falconry, popular sport of Arab Sheikhs (hence the name). I think this was image on the card:

I have almost forgotten about this monster so I was quite surprised when Neo released one:

To be honest, even a real car now looks a bit tacky to me but still cool at the same time. Hats off to Neo for making this model. Too bad that it doesn't have black Audi grille as the above promo car has. But to be fair it seems that all later "production" cars had Treser grills. I still love the TRX turbo wheels, also Treser-made.

Some more info about the car:

Long before Audi conceived the Allroad, Treser developed a light, off-road version of the 90 (4000) Quattro. Jacked up and with bulging fender flares, the Hunter also carried substantial-looking brush guards, a signature Treser grille, and smoked tail lights. It had an upgraded suspension, brakes and hubs borrowed from its turbocharged bigger brother to hold the veined 415 mm TRX wheels, which were wrapped in beefy 280/45 VR tires that would look more at home on a Geländewagen. As its all-wheel-drive configuration meant there was precious little room for a full-size spare, Treser mounted one on the tail of the car in full, off-road style. Its performance was also optionally turned up, with Treser claiming his firm achieved about 160 horsepower from the normally aspirated 2.3 inline-five; impressive, given the engine available in the U.S. cranked out only 115 horsepower. Treser even claimed the Hunter could tackle 45-degree gradients. Treser offered the Hunter after 1986 on the then-new B3 chassis, too.

Hoping Neo will also model the rally version of the 80 as its a bit of a missing link to their later success with the Quattro. This model gives me a bit of hope that they will!

Sweet car, I remember seeing a picture of this car many years ago but it had escaped my memory banks.

Hopefully a Loubet Rothmans rally version to follow?

Glad this model is finally here as a place beside it's sister car of Vatanen has been reserved for some time. At least they have got both the crew names correct on this one!

That could be the base model for a 1979 Bathurst GTV driven by Phil McDonell and Derek Bell. #58
