Anything LeMans

Post by IFHP »

There are a number of excellent Le Mans dioramas and historic photos here on Scale 1:43, it would be really fun and convenient to view them in a single thread. I invite you all to post photos in this thread of anything Le Mans related.

Unfortunately, I don't have much to offer.

A link to some LeMans photos from the 1950s. I particularly like the photo of the spectators peeking out of holes in the roof of the Maison Blanche.

In a race with almost 100 years of history, where do you start?

A lot of my favourite pictures are taken pre-race, behind the scenes in the paddock or off-site at the many hotels and garages used as bases where the teams and drivers prepared for the big day. I'll dig out a few of my favourites.

Any where you want. I'd love for you to post some of your dioramas here too!

Here is my contribution. I recently ordered the kit for the Maison Blanche by Greenhills Garages and then watched LeMans for the first time in a long time and then Ford v Ferrari for the first time ever. I really got myself in the mood to try something LeMans related.

LINKS:

Ford v Ferrari or LeMans '66 (depending on where you live) is great cinema, but, as movies almost always are, a distorted historical narrative based on the imperative of good story telling. There are a number of videos on YouTube pointing out the things that the movie got right and wrong.

Although I bought the disc and you can pay to view the movie on a number of streaming services, it appears that the entire movie is now on You Tube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AphqetTrXt0

Here is the best comparison video that I've seen comparing the film with the historical facts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYVzwR_RKCE

As I said above, I particularly like the pre-race pictures from the paddock at Le Mans. Here's a couple to get started:

I always thought to would be cool to model a diorama of the garage at Teloche used by Porsche as a base for many years. 1973 would be a good option:

I quite like the "spare" car Porsche have - I wonder what's under the bonnet of the 2CV. :D

The same workshop, a few years earlier? Great shot!

...and here's the same workshop 10 years earlier in 1954.

The nice thing is, the garage still exists today, looking much as at did 65 years ago.

You can use google maps to check out the street view. The address is 25 Rue du 8 Mai, Teloche, France:

Even the street view hasn't changed much in that time:
