Porsche 356 SL Light metal Coupe - Minichamps vs High Speed

Post by Galaxy Gaz » Mon Apr 16, 2018 11:14 pm

So is the Minichamps worth 4x the price of the High Speed version ?

The devil is in the detail, so which one would you buy ?

I think these are so close, that it doesnt really matter and I would happily display the HS in my collection.

Nice comparison Gary. I hadn't realised this was Porsche's first ever international event.

If I walked into a bricks and mortar store and saw the High Speed for $10 vs the Minichamps for $40, the High Speed would be very tempting. However, when you live on the other side of the world and your paying $20 in postage, then the difference becomes $30 vs $60 and on that basis I might be more tempted just to pay the extra for the Minichamps. I always get a mental block when the postage costs more than the model :D .

My HighSpeed was < EUR 10. Unbeatable value.

Tom

The only obvious difference is the photo etch wipers and rear grille on the Minichamps version.

But as you say both look very similar.

HS is the better model because it represents the real thing better. MC has this tendency to make their older porkers like the modern ones, ie, flat and wide. They did the same with the Carrera RS, that almost looks like a modern representation of the real car. So even if the detail level is better on the MC, overall shape is not, therefor HS comes ahead in my eyes.
