Kess miscues

Post by Tom »

Today I examined Kess' eagerly-awaited Porsche 924. They do the Weissach and Le Mans editions, both were high on my wish list. Seeing the models cured me of that wish.

Look at the contours of the nose...

Instead of the gentle curve of the real car, Kess used a straight line. Also, it looks like the proportions are off, the model is too wide.

The sub-10 euro HighSpeed version is a lot more correctly shaped.

And the things aren't improving in the rear of the model.

The HighSpeed version is very nice, even more so given its very attractive price. It's strange that, given their RRP, Kess seems to go wrong a lot. I would have loved to have decent models of the Le Mans and Weissach versions, but I know that I'd be forever annoyed by the shape. MC got it wrong too, but not as spectacularly as Kess.

AAM Boyer did the same model years ago (much better, I might add) and MC did the pre-facelift version so in theory a semi-affordable model of one of my favourite classic Audis would be welcome. However, I wish anyone but Kess had done this...

Main gripes: the A-pillars are about twice too thick, and the profile is completely misshapen- too high and squashed.

Kess have been doing some good stuff lately so I took at look at their future release schedule. Mainly Ferrari and most look OK, but, even though I wasn't particularly familiar with the car in question, a Vignale 212 Export model, my instincts told me that something didn't look right about the windscreen. My instincts proved correct....

Back to the drawing board I think.

One hopes that maybe this preproduction example will not be the final production version.
