Ford Capri RS3100

Post by guitardave_1 »

I need some help on this one. I wanted an RS3100, and picked one relatively at random at a reasonable price. However, on doing some research, I am struggling to make the model tally up with a real car. Minichamps describe it as the 1974 Zandvoort ETC winner, driven by Stommelen and Mass. It has the correct driver names, but the race number and livery appear to replicate the 6th placed car of Glemser and Hezemans.

I don't have much info or literature to go on, but I would be really grateful if anyone can shed some light or offer an explanation. Otherwise, I fear that Minichamps have made a bit of a mess of things with this one :(

On a happier note, I am quite satisfied with the model itself, which seems a very decent effort. The shape is captured well I think, and the finish is generally excellent. As I have come to expect, the smaller details such as wiper, door handles, bonnet catches etc are more crude than those seen on a Spark (or even some IXOs), but the overall effect is that of a solid replica and a nice looking model.

First and foremost - nice photos Dave

According to the bible i use it should be number 4 and have a yellow windscreen band and you are most likely correct that this is the 5th placed car with changed names

British roads have history. Some were built by the Romans. British road investment being what it is, they have only been re-surfaced a few times since.

I had a flashback on this, Dave. Didn't you have this in 1:18 some years ago?
Seems like I have seen pictures very close to this a long time past.
Very nice by the way.
I must be on the lookout for one of these.

Thanks guys. Partially white car equals excuse to dig out the blue background! I like it, but it can be a bit too much. I could do with a new backdrop as my white is very tatty, and might look for a grey one. Everything seems to stand out against that, and it's nice and neutral too. I always think it looks great in Jeff's pictures.

I fear you are correct Andy. Bloody annoying, as I like to at least be able to trace the history of the model, even if it doesn't mean a lot to me. Almost irritates me enough that I might be tempted to flog it on and replace at some point.

Correct Jeff. The 1/18 was from a different race, but essentially identical apart from a few stickers. It was one of several 1/18 models that I have been wanting to replace in 1/43. I think I have now 'duplicated' eight models. Still on the list to replace are the XJR9, BMW V12 LMR and a GT2 Viper. Of course, I also have a heap of models in 1/43 that I could never have dreamed of in the bigger scale

I agree and that is very very annoying as I specifically bought that car as i wanted an ETCC winner variation rather than a DRM one. My faith in Minichamps ability to build an accurately decaled car has now fallen off a cliff having previously been badly caught out with a Toyota rally car they produced. They are off my xmas card list for next year!

Yes, Andy is right one hundred percent. Car #5 was leading the race, Unfortunately it was rearended by Schnitzer Bmw driven by Zondler with 1/2 an hour before the end of the race and finished fifth. So Minichamps totaly goofed on this one. Drivers names are correct, the livery& start number is wrong.

Would certainly be interested. I've never tried removing decals/livery before though. Is it likely to be tricky, especially from the clear screen? I wouldn't want to make MC's mess worse!

Tip top transfers! Where do I sign on the dotted line? In all seriousness, if it would be possible to purchase a set of conversion decals, please let me know either via this thread or via PM how much and where to send payment to and how.

Excellent correction job - Minichamps should sign you up to their quality control team - its a full time job mind you.....

That is superb. I quite liked the red sunstrip, but I like accuracy more! Will be replying to your PM shortly Peter. Thank you!

Well, if you like the red sunstrip so much, I could get a decal to change the drivers names to read Glemser and Hezemans and you get to keep it?

Just means you need to get another model for the #4 car??

I would sooner have the winner than the red strip, so I will stick to converting as per your model I think Peter. One version is sufficient for me!

Thanks Dave. I didn't set out to discover that the model was wrong! I was just looking for pictures of the real thing, and couldn't find any in this particular combination.

Sounds like forum members are on the way to having a set of correct versions anyway :)
