Re: Me, My Family and Friends
I've managed to find a better model of my previous Legacy GT, so have updated that post with the recent addition of a Black J-Collection Legacy GT. I've also added a picture of a Vanguards Triumph Dolomite Sprint. I remember my next door neighbour (who was a couple of years older than me having one of these, and constantly having to retune it as the twin carbs would go out of tune after a couple of drives. He also had a 1275GT Mini (may look to add one of these) and his elder brother had a TR6 which i've just bought and will add later.

Nice! My uncle used to run a chocolate brown Dolomite HL, which he loved dearly although it kept giving him grief. Fortunately, he lived up on a hill so when the car was at the bottom it had usually started...

Re: Me, My Family and Friends
My younger brothers first 2 cars was a Nova SR. That may sound gramatically incorrect, but its factually correct - some time after buying it we discovered it was 2 cars welded together. This is a Vanguards model.

She who must be obeyed has always wanted a convertible but didn't want a big or flash motor, so this year in late summer we bought this for high days and holidays. She loves it and has called it "Doris" because it is a motor more suited for a "doris'" (her words, not mine!!). Its good value but two things let it down - it has the turning circle of a super tanker which is unforgivable in a car this small, and technology has clearly moved on as the UK road tax is £265 p.a. compared to zero from her main daily driver Fiesta (which is quicker). A Schucho junior line model.

Nice cars and stories
I still don't have one single 1/43 model of my 1/1's.

Re: Me, My Family and Friends
I came across this Vanguards model of the Fiesta Supersport. One of my friends first car was a Supersport which eventually went to the great car crusher in the sky, but my lasting memory of the yellow peril with brown check interior was him having to wrap the spark plugs up in tin foil and warm them in the oven to get the car to start on cold mornings

Cararama Mini Van Conversion - with rear windows - featured in my motoring history too. That 1:43 has been 'glammed' up well beyond the reality. No radiator grille as the stamped and perforated panel was painted as part of the bodywork, no external chrome trim except for the door handles. Most of my minis including this same grey one got the under bonnet sound deadening kit. I replaced the rear subframe on it as the old one was rusted out. Because it was bare bones it used to go like the clappers! Great fun. Can't remember what the fuel consumption was but 45 mpg was likely. Probably went to the great scrapyard in the sky long ago.

Your friends Supersport mustn't have been an original car if it was yellow . Had it been resprayed ?

It's possible, although now i'm wondering whether it was a 1300S - did they come in yellow?

Re: Me, My Family and Friends
The 1300S came with vertical striped seats as you can see here .

The Supersport had the check pattern

Re: Me, My Family and Friends
My first serious girlfriend bought a caspian blue Mk1 XR2. Great little motor, and whilst Vanguards made a caspian blue XR2, i missed it first time round and they carry a premium now. So i was delighted when attending a local toy fair today to scoop up this brand new in box black XR2 for £10. And of course, no postage! I also bought a couple of cheap partwork rally cars which will be cannabalised for wheels, seats, spot lights etc. Much cheaper than buying those individually - the rally cars were £5 each - didn't think i could go wrong for that.

Some of us can only dream of attending toyfairs like that. That seems to be where the real bargains can be had these days......you don't see many true bargains on eBay anymore unfortunately.
