Manthey #91 from LM18

Post by 911RSR » Tue May 14, 2019 3:09 pm

When I received my model of the second place finisher of last years LM24, I noticed the signature on the front lid/bonnet:

I didn't notice it before and when I went back to check some images, it must have happened during the grid walk. Does anybody know who signed it? My best bet would be Derek Bell, but I could not even find a picture that he was present during the grid walk.

All in all, really good looking model, even though mine has a few quality flaws.

Well spotted. It might be worth asking over at the Ten Tenths forum or similar to see if anyone there knows. I can do that for you if your not a member of those forum.

Doesn't look likee Derek Bell sig. Looking at the driver line-up I would suggest Mr Bruni?

Interesting suggestion. When I do a google search, this is what Gimmi's signature should like:

It is the one in the top left corner. To me, that doesn't look the same as what I see on the car.

This is what Derek's signature should look like:

And this is the first photo that I can find with the signature.

Nice model
It sure is. At first I was more excited by the pig, as it was quite bold, but in the end, I think this is the better looking livery of the two.

I am not active on that forum. I am just curious to know, so if you can ask, that would be nice.

You know why Italians speak with their hands? Because they have to work a lot on their engines.

I've had one reply over at Ten Tenths at least suggesting Derek Bell was at Le Mans in 2018:
D. Bell was, I am certain, at LM in 2018 as I saw him in Chartre-sur-le-loir on the Friday. I had to assist his younger son in closing the boot of their Bentley Bentaga as his hands were full and he couldn't reach the close button.

I believe DB was on Bentley duty so perhaps that is why he wasn't pictured with the Porsche.

That definitely looks like the one. Mr. Bell's sig does not look anything like I assumed it would

Thanks for asking and a nice anecdote. For now it is then most likely that it reads
Derek Bell
Good luck!
