Which race version of the Porsche 911?

Post by jj2728 » Mon Jan 19, 2015 7:54 pm

Ok folks, here's the question. If you were to own but one race version of the Porsche 911 and its derivatives, which one would it be? Amongst the 900, give or take, 1/43rds in my collection there is nary a one, and I think I should have at least one. So, opinions wanted and post pics. Not too concerned with cost, I'd prefer a quality effort, but then again maybe I don't need to spend major dollars for it. Let's see what you recommend.....

Well that would be difficult, as these three in my pics below are my favourite and find very difficult to choose which I prefer.

This has to be one of the hardest questions you could ask. It's like going into a comic book store and asking who's the best superhero

How about Jagermeister or Brumos, the most iconic Porsche liveries.

This is a tough question, but it is equally hard to ignore it. Very provoking.

For me nothing beats 1973 Brumos Daytona winner

Then I would place 1973 Sebring winner, next year Brumos Daytona winner and 1968 ETCC winner.

And here is something more contemporary. 2003 Racers group 911, winner at Daytona and 1st in GT class at 2002 Le Mans.

And I could go on and on. Jerry

All excellent, am leaning towards the '73 Daytona winning BRUMOS Porsche.

And now I'm leaning towards this one, albeit from this weekend's up and coming Rolex 24 at Daytona, the 2015 version of said BRUMOS Porsche. I'm sure we'll see a SPARK version in 1/43rd before long and wouldn't it be interesting if they did this and the '73 winner as a 2 car set.......

John, given your interests I think you should get something with a strong US link. You could kill two birds with one stone and get this Minichamps set celebrating 30 years of Porsche victories at Daytona :

Thanks Ian. Yes, I've seen that set before. Very interesting.
Don't know how easy it is to come by.

Hi Danny. It is made by Minichamps and it is not so easy to find. I hope I'll be able to replace it by Spark someday, that is if they'll produce it.

Surprisingly not (probably because the cars are also available individually). You could have bought one for only GBP 46 in November :

Though way over my budget, that is surprisingly semi-affordable indeed. Great set, love the race dirt.
