The Dodge Airflow truck in 1:43

Post by David H »

The Dodge Airflow truck was a special request model truck that Dodge introduced in late 1934 and available through 1940. It used styling cues from Chrysler Airflow cars and the Divco 1937 Model-B delivery vans. Most of the 265 units produced were fitted with streamlined tank truck bodies, and were used by major oil companies, like Texaco, Socony-Vacuum Oil Company and Esso.

About twenty years ago, Matchbox used the Dodge Airflow basic truck in several special editions, including this one:

It's a true curiosity of a truck! I've never seen the 1:1. Enjoy! David H

Okay, I found a very few pictures of that Dodge Airflow truck, the 1:1 real thing. Most impressive! (Click on photo for enlargement.)

Those are nice. I especially like the Texaco tanker.

So do I, great shape! Charming model by Matchbox, if someone would make that Texaco tanker I'd have a hard time resisting it.

I've been looking on EBAY for more of these Dodge Airflow trucks. There are quite a few, but I'm not sure about the quality and detailing. In 1:43 I see some by Corgi (seemingly with no glass in windows) and a Matchbox Yesteryear that may be 1/32. Larger is a line of tankers by JADA with the logos of several different oil/gas cmpanies, all it seems in 1/24. Interestingly, there was one little feller that was noted as 1/64, I own none of these and none of the pictures/descriptions tempted me. Dates of these models vary, such as 1937, 38, and 39. Interesting.

It would be fairly easy to 3D print one of these, I think.

I hope to see a 1:1 Airflow truck someday.

I have bumped into a couple of Dodge Airflow truck models, but neither is in a scale that interests me. I am posting these "just in case" someone differs. I have seen both of these on eBay recently, with the bank being in different versions.

Great color!

And second is an ERTL bank, most commonly seen in Texaco red. It seems to be about 1/32.

Happy hunting!
