Dinky Code 3 Transporter

This Dinky conversion was posted online by Roland Ward back in 2014, but I've only just found it.

The inspiration was this actual Morris based Jaguar transporter:



Roland started with a playworn Dinky 956 Turntable Fire Engine:



...removing the turntable section of the model:



He then scratchbuilt the rear section in brass and plastic card:



All painted up and it's come together well:



Here's a second version Roland created with an alternative livery:



Roland has deliberately kept the model in the style of an old Dinky, but with different wheels and a bit more detailing it could easily be upgraded to a more accurate looking model.

Roland has done several nice old Dinky conversions. A version of the Tommy Prothroe Jaguar and transporter has been something I have wanted to do, even have an old Dinky firetruck to convert. The truck you showed might make more sense Ian, its in the right scale for 1/43, the Dinky looks too small compared to the Lightweight E-Types I have. Either way, it would be a fun project!

Unfortunately, CK wanted 50 Euro to ship one of those BMC trucks to me. Fortunately, I was able to get a couple from a dealer in Italy I have bought from and another piece with shipping for less than the shipping alone from Germany. . A couple of possible ideas with one of them.

I received the BMC (SAVA) truck and it looks to be a great candidate for the Dick Prothroe transporter. It looks like the model will all come apart fairly easily. The photo of the transporter I have in this book is almost to 1/43 scale, so I can use it for a guide on making the conversion. As you can see, the wheel base on the chassis will need to be lengthened about to where the yellow tape is on the base. I have some ideas, but am going to take some time and think about it. The good thing is it doesn't show! Once I start progress on this conversion, I will try and start a new thread.
